Terminal Project

Terminal Renovation and Expansion (TREX)

Building for the Future

What is the TREX Program?
The Terminal Renovation and Expansion (TREX) Program is the Airport’s long-term vision to enhance and expand its terminal facility to better support the region’s current and anticipated passenger growth

Project Phases

The project encompasses four main phases:

PHASE 1: Concourse C West Expansion Project, an addition that adds three new gates, six new ticketing counters and suite of new passenger-focused amenities onto the existing terminal.

PHASE 2: Concourse C Modernization, which upgrades the concourse’s existing gates to reflect the terminal’s new look and feel.

PHASE 3: Concourse C East Expansion, focused on replacing the concourse’s existing ground boarding gates with new passenger boarding bridges.

PHASE 4: Construction of a Central Hall. Subject to future funding, this project will join all three concourses and consolidate the Airport’s security screening checkpoints and baggage claim areas.

  • Regionally sourced fixtures and finishes, such as Montanan basalt tiles, mother-of-pearl terrazzo floors, and custom-designed mosaics of local landmarks, don’t just inspire a unique sense of space for passengers. Most of these materials were sourced from within a 150-mile radius of the Airport to reduce shipping emissions. The terrazzo floors found in the terminal also incorporate reclaimed marble, granite and regionally-sourced shells and stone – and can be recycled at the end of its useful life!
  • A hearing loop system provides assistive listening technology that allows passengers to receive Airport announcements directly through their hearing aid or Bluetooth-enabled headphones.
  • Companion care rooms, with showers and adult changing stations, help facilitate a safe and positive travel experience for all passengers.

Sustainability and Unique Design Considerations

In addition to providing enhanced accessibility to historically underserved groups, portions of the TREX project have been thoughtfully designed to meet or exceed sustainability requirements under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification program. Take a look at some of the unique considerations that have gone into building the Airport’s newest terminal:

  • Electrochromic windows use green technology to manage daylight, glare and heat emissions – maximizing passenger comfort and reducing energy use in the terminal.
  • A 315-square-foot nursing mother’s room, featuring a private, spa-like ambience with enclosed suites and a dedicated lounge area.
